About the Writers

SATURNINO D. ABUDA, JR

“A life without love is like a year without summer”,  goes a Swedish proverb , one which inspires him the most.

Saturn is a fourth year student of Eastern Visayas State University Secondary Laboratory School. He is under the section of Einstein and a student of Mr. Brun. The best thing he likes in school is when Mathematics rules his world. He is the kind of person who likes challenges and bravely faces his problems squarely because he believes that problems make a person grow in every possible way.

Saturn easily adapts to the atmosphere of his surroundings.  If he is with reasonably noisy people, he’s noisy as hell;  when he’s with quiet people, he’s the quietest of all. He is a man who likes to be with his friends wherever they may be. He doesn’t usually entertain people whose  views contradicts his own.   He sticks with those who are close to him. He is approachable and optimistic.  He could be moody at some times, but maybe it’s just   because he’s still a teenager.

Mathematical analysis is his edge, and art is his weakness.   You may criticize or insult his works, but you can never question his work ethics.

A city environment is the place to be for him. He’s real goal in life is to experience a complete and a happy family that would go along with him at times he needs someone to express his sentiment. He feels gratitude when he is at home with his family.

MICHAEL DINCO U. CORDIAL               Editor-in-Chief

Michael is a fourth year student student of Eastern Visayas State University. He had his pre-elementary in the Sto. Nino SPED Center. His father was an airforce pilot and his mother is a bank employee. He was born to this world without a father. His mother used to tell him that his dad was a very loving father to him. He was very excited to have a son, so he prepared all things needed by the baby. His father used to rub the big baby tummy of his mother.

It was on March 15, 1996, that this tragedy happened, Michael’s father died in a plane crash. It was very hard to accept this great loss. His mother had gone to depression, worrying what will become of the baby soon to be born without the love from a father.

On March 31, 1996, Michael was born to this world at the St. Paul’s Hospital in Tacloban City. His mothers always wonder what future will await for the baby boy born without a father. He grew with the love from his aunts and his mother. As time passed, when his small mind was gaining maturity, he often times question if he really had a dad. His mother always told him that he had a father, and she used to tell him stories and showed his dad’s picture back the days when they were married.

He is good son to his mother. He follows whatever his mother tells him to do, but sometimes disobey when he is becoming bored . He understands the sacrifices made by his mother to what he has become now.

His favorite subject is Science.  He doesn’t really appreciate Mathematics but he strives hard to learn every lesson he doesn’t understand. He is an active participant in every schoolworks and activities. He never quits or surrender in ever problem that awaits him, as his mother tells him “Kaya mo ito, Ayaw pag-hinubya” (“You can do it” in Waray). He loves collecting alamanacs, K-zone magazine, and miniature angel statues, back in the elementary days. Back in elementary, he used to read books on the stories of saints, but now he is engaged in collecting almanacs and playing with his game consoles. He loves playing with his PSP and his Wii. Whenever he has his free time he plugs his Wii to the T.V. and play all day long.

Collectively, he is a simple guy who loves his studies, his future, God and most of all his mother.

MA. BELINDA C. LORA –            School Paper Adviser

Mrs. Lora is an English and Research instructor of the EVSU – SLS.  She has served as the SLS school paper adviser since she came to the University in 2001.  She has been a writer herself since her  high school days.  She was the editor in chief of the LSC Chronicle  and the LSC Blue and Gold (now LNU Chronicle? and LNU Blue and Gold?) when she was in college.

Bel, or Lyn as her friends call her, considers herself a learner for life.  She loves to read and write which she says are her greatest passion next to loving and taking care of her husband and kids.  She cannot sleep without finishing one chapter of a book or an article in an educational magazine perhaps.  And everytime she  comes across something inspiring or a line that strikes her as noteworthy she usually cuts it if it is okay to cut, if not, she photocopies them or at times she writes them in her journal and even put her own insights and realizations.

Over the years, she has collected knick-knacks of this and that.  These range from poetry to songs, to articles in newspapers and magazines which she finds worth keeping to stories and biographies of notable people whose lives or pursuits have touched her in a way.

She keeps a compilation of inspirations…a gold mine of beautiful ideas and wisdom which she readily shares with her students and writers.

She also goes over them now and then and sometimes she finds something that might inspire a friend, her students or even their parents.  But what is more amazing is that every time she browses through them she always finds something which lifts her spirit.

Her humble attempts at writing can be found in her blog “Siyempre Waray”.
