Flaunt of Flairs (Exhibit of talents and skills)

Selected students of EVSU-SLS showed off their talents and skills in the celebration of the Science Month for the whole month of September. Six different competitions were organized by the EVSU-SLS Science Club; one among the activities was the Poster-Making Contest which was held on the 11th day of September, 2009 at the 2nd floor of EVSU Drafting building. The contest was participated by ten carefully chosen high school students, each of them has their own style and mode of making their poster and was judged by the most reliable and profecient drafting teachers of the school, Mr. Arvin Ian Cillo, Mr. Allan Diaz and Mr. Nelson Manadong, each judge had spent lot of time making such decisive decision that will impart the winner of the said contest, but one contestant stand out the most according to the mechanics made by the judges, Maria Rutchea Cabaluna, a 4th year student got the first place, followed by Georgia Paza, a second year high school student, and a third year high school student, Gino Paul Lumpas in the third place.

On the same day, another leisure interest was conducted right after the Poster-Making Contest, the Science Journalism Competition in the SLS Library, the contest was joined by some of the aspiring journalists of EVSU-SLS, and the contest took almost three hours for the contestants to complete their outputs. Each produced journals of the contestants were judged by Mrs. Belinda Lora. It came out after the judging, that Marinel Octa, a 4th year student made the best journal output of the Science Journalism Contest; second place was also a  4th year student, Janelle Ponferrada, and Winston Lazarte, a 3rd year student, for the third place.

On the 23rd of September, 2009, a selection of eight student contenders from the School were invited to join the Extemporaneous Speaking at the Audio Visual Room (AVR), the competition was poised by eight students, each of which was given an instant question to be answered in 2 minutes. Among the eight contestants, astounding answers of Nicole Montallana and Marinel Octa were favored by the Judges. After the verdict of the magistrates, a tie between Marinel Octa and Nicole Montallana a 3rd year student was declared, the second place was taken by Maria Rutchea Cabaluna, and Gerard Campo, a 2nd year student  for the third place.

On the 25th of September, two days after the last activity, was spent for the preparation of the 4thSLS Science Scholastic  Decathlon and Team Debate, both was held in the AVR. The Scholastic Decathlon was assembled and conducted in the morning and the Team Debate was called up in the afternoon. There were two groups composed for the Team Debate, the Affirmative and the Negative side, each with five members of distinct year level. The debate topic was researched by the Science Club facilitators, “by which Science has more potential: killing or curing?” the Negative side consider Science as a threat to our society, and the Affirmative side believes that Science cures. After about an hour of stirring exchange of dialogues, the magistrates or the judges had arrived to a reasonable result, the Affirmative side was avowed to be the victor of the Team Debate Competition. The Affirmative group was associated by five members, a 4th year student Karla Capellan, 3rd year student Winston Lazarte, 2nd year student Saturnino Abuda, Clara Riley, a 1st year student and John Harvey, a 1st year student.

After the Team Debate, the last event was supervised in the AVR, the 4th SLS Science Scholastic Decathlon. The event was facilitated by the Science Club Officers; nine teams strive for the title of being champion. Team 1 got the utmost number of points among the nine teams; therefore, team 1 was the champion for the 4th SLS Science Scholastic Decathon.
