The battle between the EVSU Baby Hawks and HIC Sentinels was dated November 07, 2009 4:00 PM at the Capitol gym.

The EVSU Baby Hawks, along with their coach, smiled for the camera as they posed for a picture taking with former congresswoman and currently Vice–President of Sports Affairs Remedios “Matin” L. Petilla. former Congresswoman and currently Vice-President of Sports Affairs Remedios “Matin” L. Petilla

After weeks of postponing the LUSCAA management finally came up a decision regarding the schedule of the championship game. Everyone was very excited and got heated up before the game proper started. Cheers were heard in every corner of the court of the venue. Everyone was waiting for the signal to be heard.

Finally, the noise of the signal was heard all over the court. The game proper started with the jump ball with our very own Dawn Ochea, the team’s center, a freshmen student, and considered as the tallest guy in the school’s department. With the help of his height and jumping skills, the basketball heartthrob won the jump ball and thus, giving the possession to our team.

Through their nicely–made jump shots, rebounds and steals, EVSU Baby Hawks managed to garner 15 points ahead of HIC Sentinels on the first and second quarter while 18 points on the third. The game became more aggressive and the game became a physical one.

In the last quarter, the HIC Sentinels managed to catch up with the Baby Hawks and even managed to tie with them. EVSU called for a time out. It was a long time out, a very long time out.

The game resumed when the former congresswoman and currently Vice– President of Sports Affairs, Remedios “Matin” L. Petilla arrived. The score– after– the other– game continued as she sat down.

Because of the frequent shooting of the Sentinels, the team captain , Wayne Labado, made some awesome jump shots and free throws and giving the lead again to the Hawks.

The Sentinels were trying to keep up with them. But our team got it back right away with the help of the ever– dependable three– point shots of Arjay Obsanga, a third year high school student, and the team’s forward and with the cooperation and teamwork of the whole team.

The last few minutes of the quarter was a heart pounding one, though it was already obvious that our team will win. The Sentinels strived hard regardless of the fact that they will lose.

Around 7:20 PM, the game ended with score of 56-48. The plaque and cash prize were awarded to their coach, Joey Ramos, by Remedios “Matin” L. Petilla.

The joy that  they felt was seen in their faces. Their supporters were there cheering for them and rejoiced as much as they do. It was a dream come true for them for winning the game and maybe a birthday wish come true for our birthday celebrant, Kenneth Phurps Laurente, team’s guard. This achievement brought honor to our school and joy for the whole student body.

CONGRATULATIONS EVSU BABY HAWKS! YOU MADE US PROUD!
